It seems like eons ago that a little site called GoobNet poked its youthful head out of the murky waters of the Internet on SUN 01 JUN 1997. It's been over eight years now, and we never stop learning more about the Internet, about global events, about our readers' needs - and about ourselves.

We may have changed our appearance, but even so, GoobNet's hallmark, its perfect organisation, remains with us. Each item is allocated to one of six nodes, and you can jump amongst them using the hexagonal buttons in the upper right hand corner of any page. Furthermore, each has its own, easy to remember domain name.

The front page entertains and challenges you right from the start with new items every week. Our Trivia Hit offers a perplexing fact relating to the week's events, and the Quoteboard keeps you up to date on who's saying what. And to serve as an example of how mathematics can change your life, we provide Munerically Speaking, an in depth analysis of some important aspect of society.

SnakeBall [http://snakeball.goobnet.net/] is a delightfully simple Windows game that will have you addicted in a very short amount of time. One of our most challenging ventures is the weekly news discussion programme, Interaction [http://interaction.goobnet.net/], produced for the World News Centre by GoobNet. No doubt you'll agree that Debbie Myers fits right in here.

Possibly the most exciting of our nodes is GoobNet Football [http://football.goobnet.net/], where we make sure you know everything that you want to know about the world's biggest single sport events, the Men's and Women's World Cups.

The layout of each node is evocative of smoothly running machinery, analogous to GoobNet as a whole. And don't forget my personal favourite, personalised messages atop each page. Finally, you can instantly see how accurate a page is by checking its modification date at the bottom.

The more technically minded amongst you will appreciate that our pages are now in XHTML instead of regular HTML, which ensures a correct rendering on all browsers, except the ones that suck. But all of you will be happy with the more streamlined pages that require less time to download, along with the ability to convert all times you see here into the time zone of your choice.

What does all this mean? In short, GoobNet is one of the most dynamic and flexible sites you'll find anywhere, ranging from did-you-know trivia to offbeat humour to social commentary to sporting forecasts to abstract mathematics. It's clear to me that our formula works.
