For untold millennia [or so it seems, anyway], American football has been dominated by the NFL and collegiate programmes in NCAA Division I-A. More recently, however, spring leagues have begun to gain traction. The XFL finally completed a season, and the USFL’s second season is under way.

But is this really sufficient to develop the next generation of helmetballers? Could there be a developmental league managed by the NFL? There could be, and six years ago, we named the teams.
