You can use the word this in many ways. Here are just a few:

Pronoun: "Look at this eggplant."

Noun: "This is my favourite word."

Sound effect: "I was just walking along, and then... this! An eggplant said 'this' to me!"

Eggplant: "It turned out This was telling me its name."

Pet: "So I took it home and gave it a collar with a tag reading This."

Reserved word: "No, your eggplant function has to end with return *this;, not return this;."

Pointer: "Well, what if I change the function's type to eggplant*? Then it can return this."

Another pointer: "Which eggplant do you mean? This one?"

A third pointer: "That's an Irish setter. This is a pointer."
