The GoobNet MLS Journeyman Challenge

MLS’s twentieth season has been awfully exciting, if this weekend’s deluge of goals is to be believed.

Well, actually, it’s not to be believed. Did you see Taylor Kemp’s goal? That sort of thing should not be allowed in civilised society.

Still, it has been an exciting and intriguing season in MLS, and not for the first time. You will no doubt recall some of the many wonderful moments, wonderful players, wonderful matches, and wonderful kits that have been found in the comparatively short history of MLS. From the flaming horse of the Dallas Burn to the Austrian energy drink in New Jersey, from the 35 yard shootouts to the caution points, from Landon Donovan pissing off everybody in Southern California to Landon Donovan pissing off everybody in Northern California, from the bat out of Tampa to the man with a chainsaw, MLS has certainly come a long way.

But all throughout these past twenty seasons, one thing has remained the same: journeymen. Players who are not superstars, not main sequence stars, but not benchwarmers, journeymen are good enough to make a squad, but not always good enough to stay. They may make a name for themselves and endear themselves to their supporters, but the inevitable always happens. Whether it’s making room for a new superstar, disagreement over a new contract, or simply seeking greener pastures, the journeymen will always end up moving on.

So naturally, we here at GoobNet had to do what we always do in situations like this. We’re going to test your knowledge of MLS journeymen.

These eight players all made at least one appearance in an MLS regular season or playoff match for at least three clubs. All you need to do is figure out which players played for which clubs. Simply drag the clubs’ names onto the players’ names. Click a placed club if you want to remove it. You do not need to put the clubs in chronological order, nor do you need to identify if a player has spent multiple stints at the same club.
