Do the draw

In just a few short days, the draw for the 2014 Men’s World Cup will decide who will play whom in Brazil. The draw is always an eagerly anticipated event that is probably not rigged. And if it is, it’s only rigged slightly.

But wouldn’t you like to know what would happen if the draw was actually not rigged at all? Or if it was rigged a lot? Well, now you can find out! We here at GoobNet have prepared the below utility to help you perform the draw yourself. To start you out, we have arranged the teams into our recommended pots: the seeded teams in Pot 1, the remaining UEFA teams in Pot 2, the CAF and remaining CONMEBOL teams in Pot 3, and the AFC and CONCACAF teams in Pot 4.

But you are of course free to use your own arrangement. Just drag the teams and drop them into any pot you like, select whether you want to activate confederation protection [which, if activated, will ensure that each group will contain no more than CEIL(N/8) teams from a given confederation, where N is the total number of teams from that confederation], and then get to it.

Once you’ve completed your draw, we invite you to send it to us at <goobnet‍@‍goobnet.net>. As usual, we will be offering a special prize to anyone who is able to recreate the results of the actual draw: a brand new iPod Yocto.
