Here are the results of the first quadrennial GoobNet Winter Olympic Event Championship, determining which medal event at the 2010 Winter Olympics best expressed the Olympic ideals. [We are of course referring to the original Olympic ideals of unity, peace, and athletic excellence, rather than the current Olympic ideals of exposure, money, and political influence.] The tournament was held in honour of Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili. Hosts for this tournament were selected from amongst previous Winter Olympic hosts. The hosts for this year’s regional semifinals and finals were Innsbruck, Austria; St Moritz, Switzerland; Lake Placid, NY, USA; and Chamonix, France. The host for the final two rounds was Torino, Italy.
The tournament was competed at a very high level, as there were numerous events that could have been deserving winners. Congratulations to the champion, the men’s ice hockey tournament, for winning the Nodar Kumaritashvili Memorial Sled for the Winter Olympic Event Champion. We also extend our great thanks to all participating events and to everyone who volunteered their time and effort to make this tournament a success.
