Guide to services

So every once in a while someone asks me what sort of site GoobNet is. I often find myself hard pressed to sum this site up in just a few words, because this is such a complex site. But there are several major services that we at GoobNet like to provide.

KNOWLEDGE
Did you know that Venezuela have won more Men's World Cup qualifiers in this tournament than in all their previous qualification attempts combined? This is just one thing that you'll learn in Men's World Cup 2002 Qualification and its "sister" site, Women's World Cup 2003 Qualification. Together, these sites tell you everything you'd want to know about the races to football's two biggest prizes. But that isn't all. You can stun your friends with Numbers, the comprehensive [and sometimes accurate] GoobNet Exclusive that tells you something fun about every integer between 0 and 100. Add in the many Weekly Whines that have informed you, such as "Elecciones Peruanas" about the SUN 03 JUN 2001 runoff for the Peruvian presidency and "Focal Plane: Coffee Immunity" about the growing problem of coffee immunity, and you've got a site that will make you knowledgeable without you even knowing.

SUPPORT
We here at GoobNet are on your side. That's why we've provided such services as SnakeBall, the most action packed game you'll ever see on this site. In addition, we have also connected you with many items of Multimedia, each of which will give you something about which to think. We've also provided an easy way to determine your physics acumen with our quiz, "Does Your Physics Go Too Far?". No matter what you need, you can get it from GoobNet.

NOVELTY
We've never been afraid to break ground. We were the first to present Simple Introduction to Munber Theory, the incredible work that's making everyone say "Are you sure that theorem's right?". New things crop up every week on GoobNet - you have our guarantee on that. A Weekly Whine has been published here at this site every Sunday since SUN 14 SEP 1997. Of course, a lot of them sucked, but there's been one every week. In one recent Whine, we brought you something new: Interaction, the interaction show wherein people worldwide interact with other people worldwide. We here at GoobNet are proud to be able to bring you occasional transcripts of some of the most important editions of Interaction.

COMMUNITY
You may not consider GoobNet a specialist in bringing people together, but we've surprised many in this category. Start with portHOLE[tm] by GoobNet, where we've recently introduced My portHOLE[tm] by GoobNet. You can customise your own entry page to the Web, except for the features. You've been brought into contact with a wide spectrum of interesting people, including Ed Wilton, who conducted the "Keyboard Survey 2000"; Ali Liminisi and Janet Love, the hot blooded girlfriends whose reunion is recounted in "The Results, or Lack Thereof"; and, of course, Edvard van de Kamp. "Dynamite Eating" Edvard is a former stuntman whose speciality was consuming explosives. This talent, unsurprisingly, caught our attention, and we began to cover his incandescent rise to stardom. We were there to bring you news of "the Explosion", as it is known, and after that we became very good friends with Edvard. Hopefully, we've enabled you to feel the same way about him, and we've tried to give you a glimpse into his life with a chance to "Stump Edvard".

VARIETY
Is there any topic that GoobNet hasn't yet covered? We keep our detectors on every aspect of global society, as evidenced by the impressive list of Junk we've compiled over the past several years. We've helped you link your hair colour with your future in "Decision Point", we've kept track of a former Vice President in "AlWatch", we've challenged you to choose a desiccation method in "Dare to Be Dry", and we've even made pastry spellings a contentious issue in "UGH or No UGH?".

You can't deny that GoobNet has been an influential site. Of everything that we've been through here at our world headquarters, the event that I find most gratifying was Ali's long awaited reunion with Janet, which we mentioned earlier. Soon we intend to travel to Las Vegas to give you a chance to meet these unusual ladies. Till then, you can be sure that these five concentrations will be found throughout GoobNet.
